Year End: Three Opportunities to Give
November 5th, 2015 by Steph Whitacre
Hey, SERV friends and family, can you believe it is November!? 2015 has been a great year at SERV International. With your outpouring of support, some of the highlights of the year have been the following:
- We hosted a 5K and a Garden Dinner.
- We provided 500 Georgia families with free groceries.
- We helped students fulfill thousands of hours of service project and internship hours, in partnership with Girl Scout troops, VBS programs, college classes, and more.
- We distributed an estimated 500,000 meals in Kenya, and an estimated 150,000 in the Dominican Republic.
- We supported the building of four church buildings and the training of their pastors in northern Kenya.
- We drilled a well in a remote village where previously women and children were walking 20 miles round-trip to collect water.
- We facilitated 4 mission trips – 2 to Kenya, and 2 to the Dominican Republic.
- We rescued 10 orphans and brought them home to the House of Hope, raising our family at HoH to 50 children.
November officially kicks off the holiday season – a time of reflecting on the past, showing gratitude to others, giving generously to those who have need, and setting goals for the following year. As we reflect on and praise God for the progress made through SERV International and its partners in the past 10 months, we are also setting goals for 2016.
As a nonprofit, we are also aware that November launches America into a season of tax-exempt, charitable giving. While there are innumerable ways to be involved in what SERV International is doing – things like praying faithfully, sharing our story with friends, going on trips, donating clothing, and attending events – today we would like to share with you about the opportunity to support SERV financially.
While you can make a donation to SERV at anytime during the year (and many of you do!), there are three upcoming times when you can join others across Georgia and the United States in meeting the needs of others.
GEORGIA GIVES DAY: November 12. “Georgia Gives Day is an initiative co-created by the nonprofit sector itself. It doesn’t support one cause or one locale – it’s all of us in the state’s nonprofit sector pulling together to ask you to stop and consider your life and your community without nonprofits. On November 12, 2015, we will challenge the public in a ‘flash mob of giving’ focusing on one 24 hour period to see how much we can raise for Georgia’s nonprofits.” – From Georgia Gives Day’s FAQ
SERV is excited to be part of this statewide initiative of generosity. If you would like to participate, here is a direct link to SERV’s donation page on Georgia Gives Day’s website: https://www.gagivesday.org/c/GGD/a/servone/donate/
#GIVINGTUESDAY: December 1. First there was Black Friday. Then Cyber Monday. And now there’s Giving Tuesday. “A Day TueGive.” To participate in Giving Tuesday, you can donate through SERV’s website at: https://servone.org/donate/
Part of what makes Giving Tuesday a huge success every year is people participating with friends & family, and sharing their stories on social media. We would encourage you to gather your family, small group, coworkers, or sports team, choose a SERV project that resonates with your group, and maximize your impact by giving together. Don’t forget to take a picture of your crew and hashtag it #GivingTuesday and #ServOne.
YEAR-END GIVING: Now until December 31. Did you know that year-end giving accounts for 40-70% of most nonprofits’ annual budgets (according to Pursuant Group)!? With the end of the year drawing near, many use this opportunity to make tax-exempt donations in addition to their regular yearly giving.
To contribute to SERV as part of your year-end giving, you can donate through our website (https://servone.org/donate/) or mail. Checks made payable to SERV International. Our mailing address is: 3145 Marietta Highway, Canton, Georgia 30114.
In addition to these giving opportunities, SERV supporters are also invited to come out for some unique SERV shopping events and SERV Ball this holiday season. You can read more about them on our events page at: https://servone.org/events/
We can’t say thank you enough for the generous support shown all year long to SERV and its partners. It is a blessing to our staff and our partners in the Dominican Republic and Kenya to witness God’s people using their resources to serve others. And we hope that this November and December, you will feel the blessing of this overflow of generosity as well.
